Unhappy ATI alone in the battle with NVIDIA (read: STMicro quits !)

In the very near future, we only have 2 options when buying a graphic card: NVIDIA or ATI. Because STMicroelectronics has withdrawn from the PC graphic market No more Kyro 3 for you !
I hope ATI will keep improving their hardware and software (read: drivers) so that NVIDIA won't charge us ridiculously for a graphic card

not that i owned a kyro, but they were doing good things with their technology (HSR etc), and the more players the better.

their first card pyramid 3d was a complete joke even if it had specs above everybody else and these were the exact words from a developer who actually had the card
well it's a shame stm had to leave even brfore they gave us a look at kryo3

Paste from hardocp.com

NVIDIA handily serves up another company their own nads.

GENEVA--STMicroelectronics today announced it will pull out of the competitive PC graphics accelerator chip market and is now seeking a buyer for the related assets of the business.

I have been told multiple times that KYROIII is certainly in the works, but we have to remember that STMicro is not the technology company behind the PowerVR ways. Imagination can
still sell their technology to a company with hella cash.

By the time that happens, the nvidia technology will be far superior anyway.. if it isn't already

Nvidia will probably by the rights to it, so that no-one else can come up with similar technologies.

Look at this:
http://www.gaxa.com/users/fanmastert...rks2001pic.jpg

This is from a guy I know @ MadOnion forum, who is a hardware tester/reviewer. Kyro3 = not bad. Actually, Kyro3 may still be released as STMicro just designs the board (the PCB) and selects components (from what that guy told me). What we need now is some other company to do that.

I wouldn't count on that 3DMark score being authentic...

this is just like the situation with 3dfx , they even had silicon production samples of Rampage+sage when it was sold to nvidia
man if this continues on the graphic card industry is going to become boring and much less competetive , not enough innovations and right now i still can't see any product to even offer what i call the true next generation perfromance

how much more do you want? In terms of framerate...the Ti4600 is overkill!

With the Ti4600 you can play decently at 1600x1200 with 2x FSAA enabled!
