Default R.I.P. 700E

after numerous hours of changing various PCI/AGP cards, HD, RAM, CDrom, cables, PS.........I've managed to borrow a s370 CPU off my friend, as soon as I put that in, my pc work again god dammit, that means my trusty 700E is finally dead just becoz I decide to change a bigger HSF on it.

now I have a spare CUSL2-C with no cpu on it......
and one less machine folding for me

Oh no! Thats bad news. Are you sure that the cpu is dead?? Have you tried it in a different machine?? What exactly were you trying to do to it ( the bigger heatsink/fan )??? Did you damage the cpu core?? That happened to a friend of mine once.

By the way, what are you gonna do with that spare ASUS CUSL2-C?? Do you want to sell it?? If you are, I might be interested.

I was just trying to change the bigger fan on the heatsink
the core is fine, otherwise I wouldnt have spend hours trying find out whats wrong with it
think I'll keep the mobo for the time being to see if there is any use, if not I'll sell it
I'll let you know if I do

Yeah, no worries mate. Bad luck about the 700. Sad when things happen like that.

Seems odd, that you would damage a P3 just by replacing the heatsink, the P3s have thermal protection, and when they reach a certain temperature, resets themselves. Unless you removed the cpu and damaged it with static electricity no damage should be done, also check for a bent cpu pin.

seems a bit strange that it would just die. If there's no damage to the core it makes it even stranger. maybe you should try it on another PC just to be sure.

I agree with you Cryogenic. I would be trying that if my cpu suddenly stoped working. You never know, sometimes computer parts just stop getting along with each other. Very, very unlikely that a cpu would just stop working with the motherboard. But hey, its worth a shot!

Haha! I bet you never expected anyone to feel sorrier for the motherboard than for you.
