Wondering if anyone could recommend some PDA's that are GPS compatible (the type that shows the street names etc.)
Was looking at the iPaq's with the sleeve/cradle but would prefer something totally built in and fully portable eg. doesn't need to be plugged into the car cigarette charger to work. Also what is the general life span of the batteries in the PDA's? I mean, how many times can you recharge it before the battery doesn't hold charge? Or is this not a problem with them? Also do many of these have the talking eg. "Turn left in 400m"? Or is that only in the expensive in car systems? |

best bet is getting a PDA (ipaq H2210 is what I have) and getting either SDIO GPS module or Compact flash GPS Module (this one cheaper than SDIO one) Note also for SDIO ur PDA must support SDIO so just a normal SD slot won't do I don't think. Someone can clarify me on that. I got the CF GPS and it works great.
Athough after getting these u would need to get the maps ![]() Good luck looking for maps though :P

I understand getting the maps is easier if you "know people" :P

I'm also interested in getting this for my 2210.
What am I looking at cost wise for the CF addon and "the maps"?

You can get a CF GPS card for around $150-$170, but the maps are a different story. They cost from $200 upwards. All up look at about $800++ for a good nav setup.

Got a "Navman Pin", still charging... believe its exactly the same as the "Mitac Mio" but with Navman on the front and the Navman SmartST software bundled.
Should do the trick nicely, its charging atm. |

depends how much you want to spend, I own a IPAQ 5450 which supports GPS costs about $1100, proberly the best buy is the IPAQ 2200 (Bout $399) it will do the job (also has Bluetooth)
battery life depends on usage and settings, setting the unit to high standby time will give you more battery life so long you don't use it very frequently. to use the GPS function more adquectly make sure you have pocket PC 2003 installed. Cheers |

Bump,
Anyone have some experience with the Navman PIN and other devices, and how good the map coverage is? |

I get a pretty good connection with it, the only thing is that it doesnt work under my back window but i think that is because of the window tinting. battery life is about 3 hours, it uses a supplied Li-Ion battery
