Hi guys,
I've got a quick Q regarding PDA's, as I'm considering buying one over the next few days. The particular model I'm looking at is a HP iPAQ 4150. I work a job which has now just decided to stage the starting times for all of us technicians from 6:45am to 8:00am. My times, I've just found out, vary a fair bit. So what I'd like to do is synchronise this PDA with Outlook to have reoccuring events which outline my starts, and have an alarm go off 1.5 hours or so earlier to wake me up. Hence removing the need to ever fiddle with my stupid bedside alarm clock ever again. Is this possible to do with a PDA? I haven't got much experience within Calendar of Outlook, and certainly little no nil in PDAs, but if this is possible I would be very happy indeed. What do you think? Can it be done?

With the alarm function in Pocket PC 2003, you can set different alarm times for certain days.
It probably wont work if you have varying start times every week though

Its quite simple to do and I use my PDA for that purpose as well, just enter in the time you have to work and set a reminder for 1.5hrs. Once its time for the reminder the PDA will make a noise and display a visual notice about it although as an alarm clock I don't think it would be good unless you had it wired to a huge speaker system.
Personally I have to get up at 5am on some days for work and I just set my PC to power up at 5am works like a charm the sound of the PC powering up wakes me up instantly. If your work is the same shifts every week you can set it to recuring but when I was casual I just entered all the times manually once I knew them. Last edited by Nevac; 24th July 2004 at 7:00 PM. |

It is cirtanly dooable, but I don't really like the alarm in WM2003. I could easily sleep through it. I would try to get an add on alarm program to have a louder alarm.

Well I ordered the iPAQ 4150 last thursday night.
It should arrive on Monday, I've been told. I've been playing with one of the PDA's at work, a Toshiba e750, and moreso just looking at the apps it was bundled with, I should do exactly what I want to do with it, along side the alarm thingo. Added to that I picked up a Kingston 256mb SD chip off eBay the other night for $66, so that'll be handy too
