Default Do I need To Change Crossovers?

Hey guys
Just a simple question...
I am currently using a pair of old 3way Akai SW-MX105 speakers . They are rated at 6ohms.
Now, they make a rattling on the paper cone when fed low frequencies ( such as form the new Batman trailer, or the drums in The Mists Of Avalon ).
So if I was to replace the woofers, and get 8ohm woofers, would i need to adjust the crossover within them?

Thanks..

It is more than likely that the Akai's used no x-over what so ever on the woofer, or at the very most a small coil.

Feel free to replace it.

Thanks for the reply

So would it be worthwhile getting a crossover as well?
Wouldn't having the woofer , midrange and tweeter at different Impedence values screw around with the volumes ?

Any sites or guides would be appreciated, as I think I need to learn about tuning crossovers and such, so I have SOME idea of what I'm doing...

well the different impedences would change the crossover points, though i'm not familiar with home audio so this answer may be very limited in application

A crossover can be usefull, however many woofers will roll off naturally at higher frequencies and can, depending on the specific application, sound better with no x-over than with one.

The specific impedance of each driver doesn't really matter (within reason), it's the relitive efficiency of each that counts.

http://www.diyaudio.com is a very good site to learn about all things audio.

At this point in time one of these woofers;

CW2110 (8'')
CW2119 (10'')
CW2125 (12'')

Available from Jaycar, are best suited for your application.
