Default Norton Speed disk problem!

Hi

When I try to Defrag my C: drive, Speed disk comes up with an error, saying my C: drive is locked by a program, and to unlock it.

What could be causing this?

Cheers!

Cool

Virii scanners, Seti, Some temp monitors et al have been known to cause speed disk to have problems. Close 'em and start again.

Pretty much anything that writes to the hdd will screw up scandisk/defragging programs.

Well I use speedisk once every few days, and have so for months.
The security on the drive is fine, your allowed to access it n all that shit.
I don't have my virus scanner loaded in the memory.
The only thing apart from windows stuff, running in the memory is my ZA firewall.
BTW, I am useing Win2k.
Any more help?

Cheers!

O yeah, one last thing, I am logged in as admin in Win2k.

What version of Norton? What OS and What file system (FAT32 or NTFS)?

Had the same problem with NU2000 and Win2000 w/ FAT32, went away with NU2001.

I thought scandisk could only run on Win2k (NTFS) partition on bootup? As the C drive gets accessed all the time and the only real time its free is on bootup.

You can run it in safe mode. Make sure nothing loaded as well in memory.
