Go the first one
Reson being, that Centrino will kill the XP easily, add in the HUGE difference in battery life, and your well ahead. The ACER laptops are greta, we sell a fair heap of them at work, with nearly none coming back. Hoever, this last couple of weeks, a HUGE number of HP and Sonys are coming back in with probs, which is usual for sony, but not HP |

I've got an Asus A2500D, and it's much better for gaming than I thought it would be. It's got an Athlon XP-M 2800+, Radeon 9600 Pro and 512Mb ram.
Doom 3 timedemo - demo1 - 38.7fps 1024x768, low detail, shadows off 3dmark 2001 - 10,029 3dmarks Games like Desert Combat and Warcraft 3 TFT are too easy for it ![]() I usually overclock the Radeon a bit, as it was for those benchmarks. I'm using the Omega 4.7 drivers.

Go and have a look at the ECS Notebooks
they have several with ATI 9700 128meg video cards with 800fsb Destop P4's with HT and you will defenetly get one below $2500 I have had a couple of them both were the ATI 9000 64meg and performed pretty good but there new range kicks arse Go here this one is what you are after But be warned if you want gaming performance from a Lappy theres a down side, the battery life absolutly suks the battery works more like a UPS, my ECS 732 with a P4 3.2gig 533 FSB consumed the battery in like 45 mins ![]() You can pay more and get a 12cell battery But the one I've linked to is about $2500 with: the 12cell battery and 2.8 P4 with 800fsb, 30gig, Combo drive yarda yarda yarda

Thanks for the the replies guys
I also found the other laptops that could be added to the list Asus , $2,179 (1.5ghz, 256mb, 40gb) LG , 1,949 (1.5ghz, 256mb, 40gb) They are cheaper the the others i was looking at but not sure if its worth it to drop this. Also Marzi or others whats the differnce between the A2000D and the A2500D? Also seeing as you own one Marzi, what battery life do you get from it and can you overclock the cpu at all? Those ECS laptops are more like DTR's then Laptops, but still looks kinda cool, i would prefer not have a P4 though, because firstly eats power like nothing, and secondly i dont really like the design too much, they have their place more in desktops with overclocking. I guess the athlon XP eats power too but they are still normally pretty good for gaming and cheap. Thanks for pointing out this option though Last edited by Deja Vu; 21st August 2004 at 12:18 PM. |

AFAIK, the difference is
A2000D = 2600+, 256Mb RAM, 40Gb HDD, CD-RW combo drive A2500D = 2800+, 512Mb RAM, 60Gb HDD, DVD-RW There are different variations around the place, the main difference seems to be the CPU and RAM. In battery saving mode, listening to cd's or word processing you get 3-4 hours. Playing games or having it set on max performance you get 2-3 hours. I just had a quick go at War3 on batteries, and it reports 2:19 time remaining at 98% battery charge. There are no overclocking options in the BIOS, so I guess you have to find a program that can change the FSB in windows, which one I wouldn't know.

Take a look at the ECS 556 that one is a Centrino with 9700 128meg comes with a DVD Burner to I think at about 2.5k
It has one of those 1600xsomething screens, supposed to look pretty good but havent seen one yet I read about this one in a couple of reviews and it benched out at one of the fastest on the market, there woz one other that was quicker cant remember which though

but it cant hold a candle to a ati 9600 - 9700 laptop, but if your wanting a laptop that is basically awesome.. cant go past the asus, its the best sounding and looking laptop i have seen.. but i wouldn't primarily use it for gaming, as you are..
