Default 9800pros + hl2

http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=1193&s=3

This suggests a 9800 Pro can get 95FPS on high detail @ 1024x768, on a AMD 64. Just wondering, how much of a drop in fps would you get if it was a 32bit AMD, like the system in my sig

Also would that be a 256bit 9800 Pro or a 128bit? Theres two 9800 Pro cards at my local shop I can get (or atleast save for):

http://www.gamedude.com.au/prod_show...viSA9800se_128 - $235!!

http://www.gamedude.com.au/prod_show...9800pro_128_cs - $359

The first is 128bit, but I'm not sure about the 2nd, I assume 256bit. I'm sure I'm getting something wrong, that seems to good to be true, high quality for $200-300? Either 64 makes a "massive" difference, or I've spent to long in here listening to people talk about their $700 cards been to slow when in reality my dreams of decent gaming isn't as far as I thought

The stress test has nowhere near the same level of graphical detail seen in the HL2 screenshots/videos, nor does it have large amounts of action - don't trust those benchmark results as a measure of how your card/system will perform with the real game.

I completely agree.

With my A64 + 9800np setup... i'm still not convinced at 1280x1024 is going to be in anyway playable under the HL2 engine.

Ahh that's some depressing news I guess I'll just have to wait until it's offically released.

Yeah, sorry to ruin the party, but I know that there will probably be people who'll see this thread and then go buy 9800pro's assuming they'll get those kind of results in the game, resulting in a lot of dissapointment.

yeh, as the other people has said.. the test isnt using the full amount of graphics that the full hl2 would have when it comes out. but it does give a rough idea how it will perform (kinda) :s only time will tell i guess

This sounds very good I mean, I'm gonna be playing CS:S more than Half Life 2 SP, I just hope this means I can run CS2 aswell. Is the Powercolor 9800 Pro a 128bit or 256bit?

EDIT: Nevermind, just checked, it's 256bit. And it costs more than the Gecube card I listed above :S

Hrm, 9800's should play the game fine - I dont see why they wouldn't, usually games get faster when they are released, unless ofcourse the beta's or alphas are missing effects etc. It will run faster than doom 3 because those kind of shadows are missing, and specular lighting etc is used much less from what ive seen..

We'll just have to wait and see how it pans out
But here's to hoping hay!

Cihan.

From what I know all 9800Pro's have 256bit ram.

This is not a 9800Pro it is a 9800se. The main difference between the Pro and the SE is that the Pro has eight pixel pipelines whereas the SE has eight but four are disabled.

Nope, there are also 128bit 9800Pro's. A few people on these forums were caught out.

And I believe those Gecube has the R360 Core instead of R350 core... try your luck on MSI 9800pro which has a big heatsink and I am quite sure all of it comes with R360 core

Most/all recent 9800's would have r360 cores... Get the newest box from either or the manufacturers and you should be fine. Powercolor is selling alot of cards, they make a good choice from that perspective.
