This laptop will not be for gaming as i have my PC for that. I'm tired of killing my windows install from overclocking and losing valuable time to reinstall that i've decided on a Laptop just for my studies! However, some "casual" gaming, like when im travelling would be nice. But a fast comp for typical Internet/Word/Multimedia usage is what i'll mainly be doing!
I have my eyes set on: Acer Aspire 2012WLMi (PM1.5G/40G/DVD-RW/15.4''/XPH)LINK Asus A3N (PM-725 Cent 1.6G/60G/15"XGA/DVDRW/XPP)LINK ------------------------------------- I'm sure there must be alot of other good laptops out there, but these two seem to catch my attention the most! I do feel its a bit overkill for mainly word processing/internet though! What others are there that are -> relatively powerful, light, long battery life and is STABLE! ? |

Well, we just grabbed a BenQ 5000U for HK$8,980 which translates to roughly AU$1,662.96.
It runs: PM 1.5GHz Dothan (It's a centrino, so it has wireless lan) i855GM Chipset (Intel graphics) 512MB PC2700 ram (2x 256MB) 14.4" LCD Monitor Combo Drive 40GB Hitachi 4,200rpm HDD 4hrs battery life (watching DVDs) Battery is a 4,400mAh i think Weighs in at 2.27kg IMO, this fits your needs too. Expect it to be out very soon, maybe in a month or so cuz i got it in a comp exhibition (promotion edition), but the product manager said it should be out very soon worldwide. Otherwise, you can look at the Targa S200, it's around HK$12,000 or about AU$2,222.22 here and runs: PM 1.7GHz Dothan i855GM Chipset 512MB PC2700 ram (1x 512MB stick) 12" LCD Monitor Combo Drive 60GB HDD (unknown manufacturer and rpm) Unknown battery life but i know it has a 2,200mAh battery Weighs in at 1.6kg

i grabbed the acer 1 week ago and am reasonably happy with it, i did pay $2500 for it but it come with a belkin carry bag, mouse and 4 in one usb 2.0 hub too. got mine from organiser world,
for the price i dont think you can go wrong... will need more time on it to really get to know it, but at this stage it is very good, battery life is annoying me atm, but it does say to wait a few recharges before it is fully functional.. i am hoping this is the case otherwise i will be back intouch with them. http://www.ow.com.au/ was the place i got mine from but the 2012 is a finished line so what you find now will be the last of the stock..
the 1680 series is i think the series that replaced it.. if you buy from yr link, grab a belkin bag to suit as they have a special on (belkin that is) that has the mouse and usb hub for $59.00..thinking that is aust wide too. battery is ok, just that in the booklet it tells you to charge for 2 hours discharge for 1 hour, and repeat for a further 2 times, i have done this and atm am not getting anywhere near the 6 hours recommonded, not even close, but it is still only young so i will run it for a few weeks before i get too concerned about it.. good luck with yr purchase..i dont think you will be dissapointed with an Acer..
