Question Question on upgrading RAM...

I'm new to notebook pc, recently i bought a sony Vaio PCG-K74 notebook, i'm thinking of getting another 256mb ram in it. Just wonder if its okay if I just buy generic DDR ram in put it in? 'coz i dunno if it will have any compatible issue to put another brand of ram in it.....

thanks in advance

find out what the laptop currently uses

open it up and have a look, it may only have one dimm slot which means you'll need to buy a 512 stick

probably wont, but i'd have a look inside first

Yes, it should.

PC2700 or PC3200 should be sufficient. Make sure it's also CL2.5.

laptops are known to have ram compatibility issues. However, newer ones seem to handle most rams ok.

but why dont you simply take your laptop to the shop, ask them to install it for you, if it works, pay the money and get out. If not, then try another brand. Sounds simple to me.

I'll add my question here instead of starting a new thread.

I have a Dell 600m, if I upgraded, do I need to match the size of the current stick thats in there (256MB) or can I go larger... say 256 + 512?
