I am helping a friend with some technical research.
They are interested in obtaining a 512K - 1.5M permanent connection to a regional area. The area is classed as regional 2, but the exchange is not currently xDSL enabled. I have spoken to Telstra Direct, and all they could offer was Frame Relay (nearest POP is 116Km away) at an amazing price. Definately not what is affordable for this research. Can anyone suggest any other teir 1 or 2 providers, that would be able to offer a permanent connection to such an area, maybe satellite can be an option.. but Telstra didn't mention this, and i can't find it on their site. thanks |

Optus.
MCI. Request. Connect. Pacific Internet. Comindico. The list goes on. If you are in a regional area, try asking some of the other large businesses who they are using.

I was at Ag-quip and telstra were showing off their latest technology for regional areas - a CDMA (same as mobile phone) modem that they claim to be nearly as fast as their entry level dsl service.
Never tried it - Just seen them pushing it. Cheers Matt |

How close is the exchange? You may be able to order a megalink service (2Mb G.703) for under a grand (just the tail).
