I'm looking to plug a hard drive into my ppc so I'm after a USB port, compact flash adaptor or anything that anyone can come up with.
Parallel port for ppc would also be great. Any suggestion would be excellent

The only problem is power for the HDD. If it's a laptop USB HDD it will draw power from the PDA and the PDA won't last long. These usually come with a power plug on the case, but no adapter.
If it's an external 3" drive it will need to be plugged into the wall, and the power packs are usually combersome... A few GBs on CF would be perfect if he's still looking for mobility.

Also thats a cf(compact flash) card(type 2 if my eyes don't decieve me) anyway so it will need on most ipaq's a cf card sleave, adding more cost, you can get 512mb mmc cards now for 130... so it'd be cheaper and more energy efficient.

Toshiba e3xx and e7xx have USB Host support.
Mine can read/write from USB flash keys, USB Card Readers/Writers, Digital Cameras, etc. |

EDIT: HOLY SMOKES HE'S RIGHT BATMAN! A quick search of ebay turns over 1gb sandisk cards (not some dodegy yumcha brand) for $135 buy it now. I wish I knew that when I brought a 128mb card for $80 from DSE about 2 months ago (unfortunately I didn't have access to ebay at the time and needed the card to record some burnouts in a hire car so it was pretty urgent )

www.yeahdone.com.au sells yum-cha ones at very decent prices too.
There are some devices where mmc only works, but mostly SD cards work too. The smaller form factor SD cards and T-Flash will replace the mmc usage in mobile phones etc.. Last edited by nux; 19th October 2004 at 7:19 PM. |

Further, search the Brighthand forums: http://www.brighthand.com/ for more information. They are just about the only current PDAs that have USB Host capabilities. Just because your HP PDA does not have it, or that you dont believe me does not make me a liar. Do a bit of research before saying that. Last edited by nux; 19th October 2004 at 8:56 PM. |
