Default Making the Shuttle Quiet

I have a Sn41G2 v2 Shuttle with a Barton 2500+ and a Raedon 9600XT pugged in it.

I want to make this baby a little quieter.

I don't knwo if it sounds louder than my oldbox because the old ATX case was under the desk or what, but the fan noises just soemtimes annoy me.

Who has quietened their beast, and how did they do it.

I know for a fact the SN41G2V2 has a Sunon 80mm fan for the exhaust, have you considered replacing it with a SilentX from www.pccasegear.com ?

Alternatively, if you're not worried about size out the back, you could probably pick up a fan bracket, and bolt on a nice big 120mm fan at the rear and run it on 5V...

I would think this reccomendation is because the Vantec has a higher CFM thana SilenX, and the CPU would benefit from that.

SilenX sounds and loko impressive, sounds like they migth be my first shuttle mods.

Thanks.

For some 'tuning' of fan speeds etc.

Try http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Works a treat. Doesn't make the shuttle completely quiet, but at least the fans are only working when they need to plus it's killed all the noise coming from my video card as the fan now runs at 2% instead of full 100%.

Might have to replace the ICE fan too with one of the slientx ones.

But my main noise generator is the PSU. I can drop everything else using SpeedFan but the PSU is a noisy bugger.

I'm either thinking of modding it with a quieter 40mm fan and run the 3pin header to the motherboard to allow me to control it via SpeedFan or try the SlientX power supply. But i think the mod option will be a lot quieter...

I migth have a look at speedfan, thanks.

Woudl liek to replcae the video card cooler though, because sometimes durign transport the fan blades move out and when i start the pc up it makes a voibrating noise until i tap it, and that sucks.

I found that Motherboard Monitor made my ICE fan run full speed as soon as it ran (on login).

If I set it to nit run on startup, the fan is now a lot quieter.

I will try speedfan now though.

Some people here wanted to do the same thing as you. Have a look at it, i think they did pretty well.

As mentioned above, you'll need to either replace the current PSU fan with a quieter one and with RPM Monitoring. This way you can attach the PSU fan to the Motherboard and slow it down that little bit with SpeedFan. Speedfan should also pickup a PSU temp sensor which you can link to the speed. The hotter it gets, the faster the fan goes. Just keep in mind the PSU temp snesor is actually on the motherboard below the PSU. not in the PSU.

Or you can try installing a replacement PSU. Namely the SlientX Pwoer Supply. Meant to be quite good.

Where can i get just the SilenX fans for the PSU without buying a whole new PSU ?

I'm not sure to be honest. I haven't got round to checking local supplies for 40mm quiet fans just yet.

http://www.overclockers.com.au/vendors/

Hit a few vendors and see what they have. LowNoisePC would probally have something along that line.

Put something heavy on top of the case (e.g. heavy book) to stop the case vibrating from the fans.
