I have an iPAQ 4150, which is an awesome little device. I love it.
I've recently wacked a nice pic of a slope in Thredbo on there, and I want to use it as my 'Today' background. However after I configure it, set it and return, the image appears to be really washed out, like the contrast is turned up waaaaaaaaay too far. Can anyone tell me how to bring this back down and make the picture look colourful like the default backgrounds?

Hey,
I too have a 4150 and the 'high contrast' problem you describe is common to most PDAs (I had a toshiba previously). What I put it down to is the fact that PDA screens have 16 bit colour depth with really poor contrast ratio. Hence, low-contrast images, such as your ski slope, look quite crap. My advice is to get ye olde photoshop (or the GIMP if you dont have photoshop) and tweak the gamma curve of the photo. If you have greater contrast, then the image will look somewhat better on the pocket pc. Coincidentally, it will never look as good as on your desktop machine, as that will be running 32-bit colour depth with a much much greater colour depth. I try to choose images that are colourful with high contrast and not a lot of gradiation of colours. They seem to work the best. |

Actually I found it last night.
If you go into Pictures through the Programs menu, and through the Tools menu at the bottom of your screen, select Set As Today Wallpaper - in there you can change it's orientation (cropped to screen or fit to screen, and it's trasnparency level. By default it's normally set rediculously high, but drag it down to 0% and select OK, and you've got yourself a nice colourful Today background
