from what ive seen, the lack of the 300mhz compared to the ultra's speeds in many tests it doesnt seem to bother the card _that_ much at all
it seems the extra 4 pipes help it alot

What are the most reliable drivers for this card atm guys? I want to try them out to fix my problems with rendering in games...

Now I got another problem. In a certain point at Deus Ex it would just shut the game down no matter what. Other levels, etc. work fine but it shuts down once i get to that same point, argh...

The core speed deficit, lack of RAM, and RAM speed deficit (the Ultra is 1.1GHz, the GT is 1000MHz) all add up to make the 6800 w/GDDR1 that much slower.

You sacrifice 50% of the memory, another 20-25% core clock speed, and another 25% in rendering pipelines.

This is especially telling once you up the res, and AA/AF, which is when memory bandwidth starts to take it's toll.

But for 1024x768 gaming, with reasonable AA&AF, the 128MB versions are fine.

I don't know who said "90% of a 6800GT performance for $300 less", but they're wrong, considering people are managing ~3,800 3DMark05 points with the V9999GT-TD and a normal 6800GT can get ~4,800 (both stock, of course).

A "real" 6800GT would be in the vicinity of 12,000 for 3DMark03, stock, I'd say (going by the numbers).

Also a Asus V9999GT-TD is only $150-200 cheaper than a real GT depending where you get the cards from. A real 6800gt can be had for $600 delivered (from Hong Kong)

Rang MSY Auburn around 5 times over the last 3 weeks and they never had any in stock nor have and ETA on new stock. You can get the the card from Umart Queensland for $525 (same as MSY) + delivery.

Considerring the high demand for these cards it wouldn't suprise me if the card was sold or beign held for someone else by the time you got there. When I bought mine I called half an hour before picking, told him I'd be there in 30 and to hold it untill then.

I do, it's well documented that the HL2 engine loves ati cards but it's not like you'll ever get unplayable frames using this card.

There's really only one way to find out, play and see what happens as each core is different. Mine won't go over 370 though I've heard of some hitting 410.

Not a 100% sure, but probaby partly to do with the way Valve use a video cards highest floating point precision for shader calculations:
ATI = 24bit
nvidia = 32bit

nvidia may need to do another driver optimisation
