Default 128mb v9999 6800GT

Hi guys, wanted to start a discussion on this card itself.

They can be had for $500-560 from what I see.
They feature full pipelines, have full 256bit ram. but have half the memory size and com with lower clocked ram.

Core: 350/RAM: 700.

What is the general overclocking consesis on this card. Good bang for buck? It only costs $10-30 more at some stores, equal in everyway to a vanilla 6800 except it has more pixel pipelines.

The obvious problem im guessing is that 128mb of videoram mightn't be great for upcomings releases of some intensive games? $500-560 for a 16pipeline card has just about sold it to me btw.

I haven't been able to find out what ns rating ram these cards use. Anyone elses knowledge would be great.

www.gamedude.com.au have it for $569 and im sure i saw it somewhere from $530 last night can't find the link though.

Someone else will find it don't worry. Might have been precision computers or something? ???

Thats why im asking about the card first before the price comes into it.

if 128mb of videoram is too little for the 16pipe card to be ok with then theres no point getting one when the full blown gt is only $150-200 dearer.

But i have the feeling that this card will overclock like mad, be good value and not really be hindered without the extra 128mb in games like doom3 at reses like 1280x960 with high etc.

Might be a good HL2 card aswell.

Im thinking of it as the next 9600xt xtreme but with all the pixelpipelines of the 9800.

Can anyone tell me a bit about precision computers because the information is a bit lacking on their site.

Can you order with Credit Cards online is the main thing I wanna know???

(edit: to be clear, I just wanna know about ordering online from them, not any vendor verdicts which are against the rules)

Otherwise I'll probably just grab one from GD when I'm up in qld in oct.

I read a few forums a while ago on this card and for anyone that's interested the card theoretically won't perform a great deal better than a 6800NU mainly because of the lower memory clock (300 or so mhz slower than a fully blown GT). From what I read, the lower memory clock kind of cripples the card, making the extra 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader almost unused. I guess this card is a tad better than the 6800NU, but it won't have anywhere near the power or the longevity of a full 6800GT. I haven't seen any benchmarks for this card at all, the v9999GE seems to have a fair few in comparison. Considering the price difference between a v9999GT and a fully blown GT (about $150), I'd say that if you could stretch to that extra $150 then you would be getting a better deal.

One last thing, I'm not sure but I think the v9999GT has DDR1 ram and not GDDR3 (read it on atomic forums I think). This would probably limit performance and any overclocks (although I'm not 100% on the differences between the two)...

EDIT: Came across this page earlier, no idea what it's saying but at least it has some info in English (down the bottom) as well as a picture of the card.

OK, German, but some benchies are there and some pics of the card.

http://wwwstud.fh-zwickau.de/~stki/R...tml/asusGT.htm

Seems like they got it to overclock to 400 / 800.

Rough translation of an interesting bit. Basically the difference between a 12 pipes/5 and the ASUS's 16/6:
Quote:
3D Mark of 2003 scores

Values with 12 pipelines and 5 arithmetic and logic units

Achievement + 4 x AA 6092 points 6157 points 6480 points
Quality + 4 x AA 6078 points 6127 points 6431 points

In addition I switched on again the card in the original state tested (all pipelines and Shadereinheiten activated) and 4 x AA. The following values came out thereby: (all values with 16 pipelines and 6 arithmetic and logic units)

Clock: 350/700 Clock: 400/800
Achievement + 4 x AA 6627 points 6935 points
Quality + 4 x AA 6499 points 6855 points

Gallium et al,

Have a quick squiz at the 6800 vanilla thread on this page, ive been dicussing this card:

http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...23#post3708323

It can be had for $530 (the cheapest ive seen thus far) and $555 down at MSY. I don't know if its the one Hot1000 said with 1ghz DDR3, but geez it'd be solid if it were

cheers,

Nong23

I think these specs are completely wrong and they've confused the v9999GT/TD with the v9999GT Deluxe. The Deluxe comes with a webcam and is a fully blown 6800GT (256GDDR3, 1ghz mem clock). The GT/TD does not come with a webcam and is a cut down 6800GT (128DDR1, 700mhz mem clock). They're either selling the Deluxe very cheap or (as I suspect) they've got the specs wrong and they're selling a GT/TD.

Thanks for that Submariner, I've been looking for some benchies on this card for ages. At least it gives us some idea of how the card performs. It looks like (in 3dmark2003 at least) having the extra 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader only net you ~550 more points. I don't know how that'd translate to normal gameplay, but I'm guessing that it'd be an increase of about 5-10fps. The overclocking potential of the card also doesn't seem that great (although 1 sample isn't enough to really judge). Hopefully some more benchmarks can come through on this card so people can make an informed decision when they go to purchase a new videocard...

IMO it looks like you should not pay much more than the cost of a normal 6800. The stores that have this card for $600+ are not doing you any favours.

If I were going to buy a 6800, I would buy the ASUS instead, if the price was right (cheap and similar price to a normal 6800), but otherwise I would be staying away from it.

BTW I am waiting to see how the ATI X700XT and Nvidia 6600GT video cards perform, before I make my next purchase.

Friend of mine just got one
Ran 3dmk03 as soon as put it in. Crashed 6 times before he realised the included drivers were crap.
Put forcewares on and got ~9000 first go with no optimising.
Seems ok, whats the normal scores for a gt?
