Default Feedback Regarding GPS software for PDA's

Hello Everyone,

Is anyone using either NavMan or Travroute GPS software with your PDA ?

Anyone have pro's & cons of either package ?

Any suggestions as to which is better ?

Nope.

I've got Destinator3 on mine. Works well enough, map coverage seems pretty good.

Between most of my mates we have used most nav software

Tomtom, destinator, navman.....

and have come to the collective conclusion that Destinator 3 is the easiest to use and has good map coverage

In my experience, I found a few features of the Destinator 3 annoying. For starters, the route calculation algorithms don't seem to be as good as the ones from other units such as Navman.

Also, the speed alert function really annoyed me, since any slight mesup with the GPS antennae caused it to go off. I'll never forget the time that I was pulling into a SHell servo at 10kph, and it was telling me I was going over the speed limit. Not to mention the warnings when the speed limit had changed.

But then again, other units don't have this feature, but IMHO, if it's not accurate, you may as well not have it.

BTW, in regards to the map coverage, most software should have identical accuracy and coverage - just about all of the maps are generated by Universal Press, who make both the UBD and Gregories directories..

What hardware are you guys using for GPS functionality?

Are they GPS devices that also do PDA functions?

Or PDAs with GPS cards?

Or something else?

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I'll be checking out NavMan with the Asus 730 PDA & BT1000 BlueTooth GPS module this week.

Anyone have a URL to Destinator 3 software ?

Cheers

I use a iPAQ 5550 with either a Haicom CF GPS card or the Navman GPS 'sleeve' (sleeve stays in the car, while the CF one is portable and is shared with my lappy).

Used to use 'Navigator' was crappy - ok maps (accuracy was good), good interface, no routing, expensive maps.

Now using Destinator 3, much happier. I also use a couple other GPS programs not related to street maps. A time sync one (sorry but the names escape me atm), a high accuracy plotter one (calculates accuracy down to +- 1cm).
