The patch does improve things, especially the way you'd lose connection to the server during a map switch. Now it's smooth and fast.

However we need more server admins to enable the new spawn protect feature for starters. Also wish they would de-power some of the vehicles a little bit because entire games are being dominated by one pilot in a vehicle killing everyone.

There is no huge bug as far as I know.

Anyway the first patch is only an indication that at least lucasarts is supporting the game. I find it's a lot of fun to play, and while certainly not the greatest game in the world it may slowly live up to its potential (if any players are left by then )

Who said it had to be anything like BF1942? If you want to play a game like BF1942, there are these games I know called Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam you can play

It's not a bad game. I'm yet to convince people to install it at a lan. I can run it pretty much maxed out on my system and it runs fine. It's crashed a couple of times but not constantly enough to piss me off too much.

I find myself using nothing but the republic jetpack soldier at times. If he had the sniper rifle instead of the stupid 2 shot emp gun, itd be set for life.

The patch has fixed pretty much every bug Ive seen so far. Anyone up for a game some time?

Patch is pretty good, but it hasn't fixed three glaring game balance issues:

1. The new "hard" AI for bots has made them still dumb as dirt, but deadly accurate. In fact if there are enough bots in a game they can totally ruin the game for everyone by sniping people across the map, killing people in a couple of shots and generally behaving with superhuman accuracy.

2. The vehicles are still invincible when driven by a Pilot class - since the pilot regenerates vehicle health, I've seen entire games dominated by one good pilot in a vehicle camping at a spawn point taking out swathes of people. Most servers don't seem to have enabled spawn protect either.

3. Vehicles also have odd damage characteristics. I can shoot rockets at a vehicle all day long and it will take dozens of rockets to blow one up. However if I plant two mines in front of a vehicle and it runs over them it will blow up - very inconsistent.

If they address these two issues, particularly number 2 and 3, then the game stands a chance. Still lots of fun, but fixing the above will make games more balanced.

1.2 patch is out.
Probably been out for a while anyways.

Seems to address a few networking issues.

hmm played well on the 4 systems i've seen it on

P4 2.6/5900XT
P4 2.0/Ti4600
Dual P3 1.0/r9200
Pentium-M/9100IGP

dunno what you guys are on about i musta missed most of the bugs, oh and PI, i see mines as more effective than rockets pretty much all the time as in the underside of the vehicle is not armoured...

Yeah, there is some "logic" behind it, but it sure makes things unbalanced for teams which don't have many mine layers.

I personally always take the rocket launcher/mine layer character, but no matter how much I prompt the rest of my team to spawn more mine layers, everyone ignores me.

Anyway I still play SWB every once in a while - it's great for some mindless Star Wars action.
