track down an old dual cpu system they are the best servers

more cpu's and RAM definitely help if you want to run game servers and also do other tasks with the machine

if it's just a dedictaed router then almost any old pos will do (that and a copy of smoothwall) a free easy to use and setup linux distro dedicated to the task

Without wishing to sound rude or flame you...........if you dont know whats required to build a server then you should probably not be building one until you have read up a bit more on the subject

atm i got a athlon XP@2317 a P4 northwood@2545 amd duron@700mhz P4 northwood@2000 and i havent used the northwood@2000 and duron in the last year
