Hello all, this is my second full case mod. The first being the Barbie computer Made for my 4 year old daughter.
And the only other thing I have done is my case that I tinker with as I get the time is my main rig This time its a case for my father in laws birthday, Hes a huge Phantom fan and has been working with computers since day dot but at the moment hes having to plod along with an old PIII 700mhz in a plain old case. So the wife and I thought that it was about time we combined his two passions together with a decent case and a decent comp to put in it. For those who don't know, this is the Phantom ![]() This case is on a time limit, his birthday is on the 24th of November so I only had about 8 weeks to put it all together from the date we got the idea. I work full time, another kiddie on the way, and money is a little tight. We have had to buy the computer bit by bit as well as mod the case, but we have pulled out all the stops to get this thing finished and it looks like it will be done with a few weeks to spare. we started with a cooler master centurion ![]() Pulled it to pieces, Bought the power supply and an areogate II and then it was off to the powder coaters This is how the case stands at the moment, the color of the case is a little darker than what the camera shows. Everything got powder coated, pci slot covers, power supply and the cooler master stealth drive covers. The switches on the front are just for turning off the lighting, which will be UV cold cathodes and UV fan lights and home made LED case feet. hes nearly 50yrs old so I am sure he will want to turn off all the pretty lights. I sleaved the power supply with blue UV sleaving, desoldered all the LED's on the fans and the LED's now run off their own 5v line with a switch for each one. The window is getting a phantom logo on it and I have to work in blue stripes in a triangle there somewhere from the phantoms belt buckle. Everything is sitting in a box waiting for me to get the time to put it all together. All that is left to buy is the processor, ram and DVD burner. this case should move along pretty quickly now, except I have to work 13 days straight.. but the overtime will pay for it to be finished off. The father in law is going to flip out when he sees this thing.

Alright, finally went shopping and got the last few bits so I could boot it up.
still allot of work to do yet, but at least I haven't blown it to bits before I finish the case. Its funny, i only just realized that i have been playing with computers for about 4 years now and this was my first full build from scratch. that first boot was sweet. *lights a cigerette* ![]() Eww, fingerprints. ![]() Not far off what it actually looks like ![]() Nothing is that bright. this camera hates me.. Before anyone says anything I still have alot of cable management to do etc, I still havent bought the floppy drive yet.. well thats it for today, must go and stealth the drives, tidy up and what not.

looks real nice, the powdercoat looks like it turned out perfect. although i dont see why you ddnt make it two tone, ie more silver since you left the front fan vents grey. or more black to tie in with the theme.
i hope he enjoys it! and also how much did the powdercoat set you back $50? |

why no two tone? I guess I just didnt even think of it
![]() Blue or black inside, purple outside would have been cool, double the powder coating cost i would expect though. It did come out really well, there are a few ripples on the top of the case I wasnt happy with but you can only see it in full sunlight outside. the coating was quoted on the phone to be $40 but when the guy saw that I wanted every tiny little piece done he jacked it up to $70 I even got the coolermaster aluminuim drive covers coated too, havent put them on yet, still lots to do. I got a delivery today from pccasegear, I had to re-order a floppy cable that I miss ordered earlier. the one I got before was way too long, now I have a short one. But it doesnt match the rest of the cables.. irritating.

Hi,
Looks nice mate, good work, though you shouldn't have chosen the circular window like wat "FB008" said. |

The round window I did half for the logo and half because I havent seen many round ones around. just trying something different. got a fair bit of work done today, swapped the fan in the PSU for a purple led one, led's run from the swiches in the front. changed the fan screws to hex bolts to match the rest. I am going to try and get some good clear shots of the case next time I have it out.

Bought a new camera the other day, its allot better than the old one we were borrowing.
I have stealthed the drives and put the rubber stripping on the window, had a small mishap when I dropped one of the fronts, the bloody thing chipped. you can only just see it in the pics. its the top one. still waiting on a delivery from zombie studios so I can do the window and some LED's to do the feet.

Yeah, I have to work in the skull somewhere.
today I was a little bored, still waiting for led's and stuff to arrive so I made this from a huge piece of purple perspex I was given by the local chemist from a display. this thing was like 1m by 2 meters long. a simple little hard drive cover. I think it neatens the whole thing up a little. I will be doing the floppy the same way when I go and get one. I did some more with the purple perspex in the case but the camera's battery gave out.

would that cover restrict heat transfer from the hard drive too much? I know my drives get damn hot and they are in the open!
