Default copy speed to xbox

How fast should a file transfer from PC to Xbox be? The file I am copying across is going at 92.76 KBps. The network is a crossover cable 20 metres long. It's configured as 100/half duplex. It seems too slow. A 177MB file is taking 30 minutes. Is it normal?

~10 MB (megabytes) / sec is normal for me.

I've actually found that the transfer rate often depends on the application that you're using at the time. Not to mention the ability to accept multiple copying threads at the same time too...

for reasons unknown, it appears that transfers also slow depending on how full the drive is. and thats all transfers (DVD and network).

I thought chipped xbox's/ps2's etc was a no-no on ocau?

A few things.

1. What FTP program are you using. If your not using FlashFXP then use it. I know a few people getting shocking speeds with other FTP clients.

2. Use Qwix with a compatible dashboard if you are copying iso's over. Speeds up the transfer rate considerably, although this won't help you with movies etc.

3. NSanity is correct, for some odd reason harddrive size seems to impact transfer speeds. My xbox with an 80gb transfers at ~10mb. Brothers with the stock drive, on the same network, same settings etc used to transfer at 400k. EXCEPT when using Qwix when it would boost to ~9mb. I replaced his hdd with a spare 40gb and now it transfers at full speed all the time.

4. What software on the xbox are you using? Try a new application. I personally recommend UnleashX as a dashboard. More features than Evo-x but not bloated like Avalaunch.

NSanity you can't sell chipped boxes but discussion seems to be fine as long as you don't get into the nitty gritty and talk about stupid things like game piracy etc (obviously). There is quite a big discussion in the 'other toys' section. We have had a few people ask about the wrong things in that thread and their posts were deleted promptly, but if you keep in on topic like this thread then the admins seem to be fine with it. Keep in mind that Xbox modchips are not illegal in Aus .

I'm using flashfxp on my end. Stock HDD in the xbox (although I have a spare 20gig drive) I will try and put unleashx and qwix on it tonight and if that's slow i'll put the HDD in. Is the slayer evo-x installer cd the easiest way to set up a new drive?

Why are you running at 100 half duplex talk about collisions, over 20metres i'd think it would be noticable

I have also noticed the speed of which data is transferred to and from the xbox.

I have noticed a lot that it is quicker to read from then copy to the xbox. For starters the IDE interface would not be as good as ATA100 as only saved games are really read/written to and from the HDD.

11KBytes / s is the maximum you would achieve anyway after IP headers and other non-transferred data.

Evilasdeath: 100meters is the length limit in Aus/NZ standards. Also the fact it is half duplex means the is only txs or rxs at one time (on separate pairs of wire) meaning that eliminates it as well.

isn't 100 metres/300ft the limitation of ethernet over cat 5 without a repeater aka hub, not limit of half duplex i should know i work in telecomes, i'd never use half duplex if i could avoid it surly xbox will run at full duplex, i wouldn't be surprized if auto detect was screwed and the xbox sees 100full pc sees 100half causes LOTS of errors on ports. I know we have customers complaining about packet loss when it happens. Many documented case's between cirtain devices auto detect falls apart

I tried the upgrade to a 20gig HDD but speed was the same (but the extra space is good )
I have now made avalaunch my default dashboard and I am getting average speeds of 4megs a second so I am happy with that!! Must've been a problem with my evox setup.

how much space have u got left on ur xbox drive? i find that as the hard drive space becomes less than a set % uploads to the xbox becomes very very slow

delete some files to free up space and speed will increase
