Default memtest for windows?

is memtest86 a windows program (i heard it wasnt)..
if not, is there a program i can run in windows that is similar to this program

memtest86 runs on its own (ie. doesn't need an O/S) - its a bootable ISO image you burn to CD then boot. I don't know if there are any memtest utilities that run under windows - the reason is that windows (and most operating systems) use a virtual memory system so you can't really tell exactly what location in physical memory you are writing to. I'm talking about memory diagnostics here, programs like prime95 will test memory but you won't be able to determine which DIMM or memory address is actually causing a problem.

If you're wanting to perform stress/stability testing under windows then use prime95. It does test RAM - but not directly like memtest.

so do i just burn the .iso onto cd and have it ready when windows is starting up?
is there any other way? my burner stopped working recently

There is a Windows memory-testing program, also called MemTest (linky) but it doesn't seem anywhere near as detailed as the DOS-based version.

Check the memtest site - maybe theres a floppy image you can use.. I think its www.memtest86.org or just google it

yes
have the cd in before you restart the computer
have it to load the cdrom first before the hard drive in bios

or you can create a bootup floppy disc and do it that way

just let it run a full loop.

There are also extended tests you can run through the options menu.
