Default my ears shall regret this

my athlon is running WAAAY too hot.. and the heatsink is going to waste with such a crappy fan (42cfm sunon).. currently idling at 55C. unacceptable. UNBLOODYACCEPTABLE!

i just ordered an 80cfm delta to strap to this baby... and my ears are already scared. im currently trying to work out how to make a 7v/12v switch.. but my electronics skills = to those of ralph wiggums ability to dress himself.

ive had a 68.5cfm delta before, and i found that overpowering in the noise department.. but these temps are beyond a joke.. and the heatsink is sitting correctly, as i touched it before.. now my finger hurts

what would be a good way of deadening sound in the case til i work out how to wire up a switch without killing my cpu/board/self?

The high profile Delta 80 mm EHE, that is the 80 CFM fan, is indeed very loud, but still better to endure than the 7,000 rpm
60 mm Delta (black lable). because the bigger 80 mm blades don't create the high-pitch noise of the 60mm fans.

I have my EHE running with a rpm fan controller, as shown here:

http://www.overclockers.com.au/techs...an_controller/

It's normally running at around 3/2 power, that is still more CFM than with a regular 80mm fan and the noise is absolutely ok.

Hey Chainbolt, that fan controller looks very interesting. Most of all its price is what is nice. The only option over here (other than doing a homejob) is the Rheobus that retails for 110 bux I think.

Tizeyboy, youll be fine If your ears will be scared your eyes sure wont since the temps will decrease by a lot. The performance I was getting out of my mcx462 with the 50cfm Sunon (lol) was a joke, not only was it running hot but I also wouldnt be able to overclock the computer. Now with the 80cfm I can battle any temps.

THe 80 cfm fan actually does make a bit of noise. I can attest to this. I say this because I too am running an 80cfm DELTA EHE.

I found that by constructing a little shroud that hang's approximately 1 cm below the level of the fan. Cut's down noise (whine)substantially. Also increased cooling efficiency of my Swiftech MC462.

I have a 80cfm Delta fan on my Dr Thermal Heatsink, its loud I guess but realy I got a good sound system and all and well I can still hear planty. perhaps your case leaks more sound then mine.

My CPU runs at 55c CONSTANT, and I mean CONSTANT unless its realy cold. I'm a bit confused because even when I overclocking it stays at that. HMMM my cpu is a 1600XP at 1800XP (fsb overclock only atm).

My mobo is a Soltek Drv2 KT266a one with all those fancy overclocking options with it.

What is your ambient? those temps arent right?

Think about it, 200mhz o/c with max vcore voltage. Allow if your Alpha was a freak cooler and could maintain 10C above ambient. That means your room temp is 16C. And to maintain 10C above ambient aint possible with a pos Sunon. I'd check what sensors your have assigned in MBM or check where your temps are coming from (ie is the sensor touching the chip).

Do yourself a favour and look into it

I just swapped my 68cfm for the 80cfm delta also. I must admit you can slightly hear a higher pitched wine over the other fans, but it all just mixes together

Rad u have a point! At first i thought it was to low so i put an extenal sensor next to the cpu core and got the same result.
(Ambient temp 22C) As i'm writing this the ambient is 29C and cpu is 32C after 1 hour of RTCW cpu 36C. I aslo touched the HSF with my fingers and it feels cool on the base. Maybe i have a freakishly cool cpu or something. The sunon is sucking not blowing and is ducted to the rear of the case where it connects to another 80mm sunon so no hot air stays in the tower. There is a 120 delta (108CFM) in the side window directly over the cpu, 80mm in bottom front, 80mm top rear and a twin 80mm fan 450W PSU.

Conclusion:- Either i am getting incorrect readings or the effort i have put in to keep it cool is working.

How can i find out for sure?
If anyone knows of any test u can do please let me know.
As for now I'm happy to a degree

actually bud, check you do have the right sensor labelled in the temperature section of MBM. I wouldnt be surprised if thats your "case" temp or motherboard chipset temp.

Default Hey mate nothing wrong with that fan

The 80mm delta is nt too bad in a decent case
NB Window kits and delta's dont mix too well ...

BTW Thanks below 0 for the great price on the PalAlpha 8045 and the 80cfm delta. Goes very well with the KR7A RAID

My mobo has only 2 sensors.
1= CPU
2=Thermal cable which is measuring the air temp in the case
This mobo hasnt got a northbridge sensor.
I get the same temps when using smart guardian (software that came with mobo)
