I am after a (fairly quiet) cooling solution for a 1U, P4 3.0 Ghz rackmount server. I currently have a Dynatron D32 blower (http://www.dynatron-corp.com/product...odel.asp?id=48) that is adequate, but is incredibly loud (60 dB - like a dust buster!)
I have found a passive heatsink by Dynatron (http://www.dynatron-corp.com/product...odel.asp?id=71) which when combined with a good system fan / blower (http://www.dynatron-corp.com/product...p?id=26&cid=30) should give me the necessary cooling. However I have not been able to find a distributor / seller in Australia (or even overseas) to get one ordered. Also, for that extra cooling, I will be running my server inside a wall cabinet which will have an air conditioning duct fed into it, so that should deal with most of the heat buildup (hence the desire for a passive heatsink) Does anyone have any suggestions, for either an alternative passive heatsink / system fan (please include where I can purchase them), or for Dynatron sales (domestic, online or international)? |

Thanks for the heads up on the article. The 1RU server on the OCAU Server Upgrade is a standard active heatsink (blower) with a conduit to vent the air directly out the back. My current rackmount has the exact same style 'blower'. The thing is, these blowers are VERY loud. My server will not be operating in a dedicated room, but in a (soon to be airconditioned) wall cabinet in an open room next door to our common work area.
The 60db sound generated by these blowers is as loud as someone continuously operating a small dust buster and even slightly muted by the walls of the cabinet is too loud. Hence the desire for a passive solution. |
