Me Too - Me Too
The 'IT' section here (@work) bought me this 'great' laptop and sold me a story that the 1.5 Ghz processor would do over 2 GHz ? CPUz is telling me 1496.2 MHz ?? ![]() Link for more info ?

they just do more work per mhz
e.g. athlonxp 2500+ @ 1.8ghz would perform on par with a P4 2.5ghz

they do more work per mhz and they have a bigger cache. banias 1MB, dothan 2MB. thus when more cache is needed it'll perform better.. of course this depends on the task at hand.
you can say that they are based on P3.. |

Intel Rep at work defines it like this
1.5 Centrino = 2.4C 1.6 Centrino = 2.6C 1.7 Centrino = 2.8C 1.8 Centrino = 3.0C 2.0 Centrino = 3.4C Also, having run PC Mark on both the notebook varients and comparing that to desktops etc, its pretty much correct. However, i have found the 1.8 Centrino's to perform the same as an LGA775 3.2 P4 in nearly all but memory benchs (GPU ect aside) I'd aim, for today a 1.7-1.8 and you'll be happy with the performance. |

thanks for putting it in such simple terms which is what I was hoping for I got a 1.6 and have found the performance was better than my 2.4 p4. and more than adequete. I'll be up grading to a 2.0 chip when they come down a bit in price ( probably feb or march. its interesting I though it was faster but until its spelled out you never really know.
cheers

I just ordered a 2GHz Centrino, 512MB RAM, 128MB 9600 PRO TURBO, 15.4" for only $2500 from Dell ($1000 off special - last day today)
I'm really excited about its arrival in hopefully 8 or so days

IXUS430 What model sony are you talking about. The particular sony im looking at buying is the VGNT17GPS if thats the one you are talking about i might have to go to hardly normal and see if they can play me a dvd or something that way i can judge the performance it has, because i would say that dvd playback is about the most cpu intensive application i will be using it for

Phate, its that one, i think, with the 10" LCD
Its cool now, was running at 500mhz during playback.. have no idea why. Turn off speedstep, and away she flies, as i'd expect of it! ![]() I mean, a 1.1 Cenrtino is around a 1.6-1.8 P4, so it should fly. All good now though, thanks zhenkai for pointing out. Other than that issue, i love that notebook, so damn small! |
