Default Difference between these two FX-55's?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-496&depa=1
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-492&depa=1

Out of these two, which is the better? The cheaper one is Sledgehammer core and the other is Clawhammer. I'm planning on upgrading my computer and want the better one.

Thanks.

AFAIK Sledgehammer is supposed to be for socket 940 CPUs. I've never heard of a Sledgehammer socket 939.

Probably just a typo or something on behalf of Newegg

OK, so Clawhammer it is (building a 939).

Did a little more digging, and from AMD's FAQ:

Q: Will “SledgeHammer” also be branded as the AMD Athlon 64 processor? If not, why not?
A: “SledgeHammer” was the code name for the upcoming AMD Opteron processor and will not use the AMD Athlon 64 brand name.

Whether that actually applies to the FX range of processors isn't exactly clear. And this test claims a socket 939 Sledgehammer...

Now I'm all confuzzed

Nevertheless, ClawHammer IS a 939 processor, correct?

I hope I don't buy the wrong thing!

If you did you should keep a copy of that website and return it for false advertising and whatnot.

I cant remember where I read it, but in performance tests the 939 was beating the 940 processors in all tests ran. I beleive it was [H] but cant recall 100%

Note: All Athlon FX series tests.

Not suprising at all, what with the registered memory than s940 uses.

^ dosn't make it a different core.

1 is 940, 1 is 939.

I forget between the 2, just do a quick goooogle search and you'll be home

The only correct answer , A hammer core is all the matters and simply means it has 1meg L2.

Nop, they're both S939. The retail one should be labelled as a Clawhammer, not a Sledgehammer. The chips are EXACTLY the same.

The first 53's were 940, then the 939 platform was released and so were the 939 procs.
