get an alarm, and get contents insurance, it ain't that much, mines like 300/year...
For the pda, most people look past them but I reackon Asustek's a division of Asus made some good cheap pda's maybe a bit ugly though. Edit: those dells look nice though, another one to look at is acer...

PALM ZIRE 72
currently on special for 400 dollars at harris tech I think. If you want web browsing then get a cheap laptop. I use my pda for storing contacts appointments important info, in word excel and adobe formats. has music a few games and a camera. Only had it a few months and I use it all the time. If I was at uni I would not need one, it's very usful with a busy work schedule |

Use outlook religiously, I use my pda for work stuff, and sync it to outlook where I put in all my appointments etc. It is a pretty slow crappy web browser, but it is nice to be able to browse ocau just before going to sleep, or while on the toilet, or while watching tv...lol but I don't have an 802.11 enabled pda anymore mines just bt...which sux.

I have had a wireless pda and its was a pain in the arse to web browse (too small to read or too cramped etc) news sites supporting avantgo (that doesnt need wireless though) were ok though .. Can you be more specific what you intend to do, there are two types of PDA's palm based ones and pocketpc based ones and they have different strengths (I have had both btw) http://www.aximsite.com/ has a great little faq on what you can do with your PDA (what can I do with my axim) its an axim specific site but all those suggestions can easily translate to most PDA's (both palm and pocket PC) have a read. Personally, I have a suspicion that most people who bring PDA's into lectures at unit just end up playing games on them and not paying attention.
