Yeah Toshiba have a great reputation for build quality when it comes to laptops so you should be fine going with that. However, Dell often have $1000 off sales so you might want to have a look at that if you're happy with buying online.

the tecraA2 - 02R is a little plasticy... but reasonably priced... (made in china)
advantages of the DVD multidrive. DVD + / -/ RAM Low res (1024x768 screen) no bluetooth single 512mb stick of ram (some come with a) 1.5 gig Dothan (2mb cache) approx $2199 The Nx5000 - 804 (purchased today for my father) high res screen 1400x1050, bluetooth, firewire, wireless, 5400RPM 60gb drive. single 512mb stick of ram 1.7gig Dothan (2mb cache) Disadvantage of DVD + R/W burner only.. (may be firmware upgradable - I have the firmware..not sure whether I will try - Yes its works... the DV-W24EP can be firmware upgraded to +/- support) Just Paid $2200 (Recent special at $2500 with a free ipaq ended 31 Dec 2004... some dealers will split the ipaq away from it) and still have stock also try this site www.hpshop.com.au for some good prices... be careful though.. their sale people don't really know what they are doing... (tried to sell me a lower spec laptop... insisting it was the same..... luckily I had already done my background reaserach on all the individual HP / Comaq models and their differences. If you can afford a bit more... the Tecra M2 with a 14" screen and 2.3-2.4kg is better built than either of these machines... there is some run out banias models around or the Dothan 1.7 (OR34H is avaiblle for $2699 at CPL (if you are in Melbourne). Dell machens are very aggressively priced... but I ahve already expierienced there extremely poor service once... and would never deal with them again... Machines from Dell are of poor quality, but you can't beat their prices when they have their huge discounts... Having bought quite a few laptops.... basically try to stay with IBM, HP / Compaq or Toshiba (at least there are lots of service centres around (in Melbourne anyway) if you must save money.. I guess at least Dell is sort of contactalbe. via their Indian Call centres... Last edited by Kelvin; 8th January 2005 at 10:43 PM. |
