Default laptop rebranding

I didn't know laptops were being rebranded in Australia. Just been having a quick look and found an interesting model but I can't work out who actually makes it. Anyone know where they get these laptops before they are rebranded.

For example have a look at the following links:
http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-6100.htm
http://www.digitalstar.com.au/_PowerNote_CL56_BTO.aspx

As I recall, it's a model made by Clevo, one of the big Taiwanese OEMs. They offer rebranding to anyone these days.

There is ALOT of re-branding in Australia, mainly Clevo models. Pioneer Computers, ITC, Metabox, DigitalStar... List goes on.

What are the overall quality of digitalstar and the other rebrand like?

I am looking for a laptop. These rebrands seem to offer alot for less.

Im a reseller for most of these and I'm pretty happy with them

I resell for these company's

www.itchannel.com.au
www.metabox.com.au

They are all Clevo/Compal/Uniwill

What makes them good is the warranty the company's offer

I think the jury is still out on that model. Asus only started shipping them last month.

Interestingly, it has a 30W MXM slot, so graphics might be upgradable in the future. The only other decent notebook in this market segment with an MXM slot is the Aopen 1559-AS.

Well it depends on the model alot of our models are Clevo Uniwill and Compal and now some Aopens.
That model is sold to us as an Aopen But i have seen an Asus with the same spec and model number + the packaging that we receive is alot like the Asus notebooks i've sold. + The design is similar 5 USB ports ETC just like a stack of Asus models.

I have seen the Powernote 259IA elsewhere as the ITC 6200, Metabox 521, Uniwill 259IA3(USA), but I cannot find the Powernote Z71VP rebranded as anything else.
There are not that many sonoma laptops out at the moment. Only expensive Asus and Dell's. The Powernote Z71VP seems to be the only value sonoma one released.

They're are currently quite a few supply issues getting the 1.8 and 2GHZ Sonoma chips which is why not many people in Aus are stocking it yet.
If you look through here http://notebookforums.com/showthread...highlight=z71v this Asus model is the same as the Powernote except it has the WSXGA Screen while the Powernote has the WXGA screen.

As FlameTheFire is aware, I am on the verge of purchacing a Z71VP from DigitalStar. Just stock shortages and my conscience trying to convince me not to spend $2.5k on something I don't really need are holding me back.

Hopefully the geek in me will win out and I'll be able to post a mini review in the near future.

I've got an Astone Z7w which is basically an Asus M6n. I can't really tell the difference between the two. Flashed latest asus bios etc.

kfk, what is it with the significantly different prices for the same specs and upgrades...the metabox seems heaps less than itc from those links?

specifically the metabox 521 vs the mellennia 6200
