Default Widescreen notebook for gaming?

I'm thinking of buying a notebook to use as a dvd player in the car for the kids, they will also use it to play low-spec kids games no doubt!

What are the restrictions, if any, on playing games on a widescreen LCD? Do you have to change the resolution to non-native? (clueless )

I had the same idea when I bought m note book. I wont be letting my son watch dvd's on it in the car. too many logisical issues.
as for games etc I play counter strike on mine and its ok occassinally it slows down so kids games should be an issue. but be carefull of the spyware and adawre those games like reader rabbit etc install.
cheers

btw it makes a great excuse to get a notebook when you have to put it passed the minister of finance.

yes dear it will be perfect to keep the kids quite

btw in car dvd system can be had for 4-500 if you look hard

I use mine both in the car and for the odd game here and there. No issues what so ever with the widescreen side of things. DVDs are also a dream.
Only issue I have is the onboard graphics.

i have a ws lappy too, gotta say i love it, in games you get use to the look of ws stretching (because when a game isnt native res (eg 800x600) it stretches and looks a bit wierd, though there is CS:S and that has WS support and so do other games...

My notebook runs most games fine as it has an nvida 4200 dedicated video card in it (might consider installing a beast nvidia 6600gt i''ve been hearing about )

This is the most important thing to consider. I have wuxga (1920x1200) with GeForce GO 4200, so I can basically play absolutely no games at native resolution.

So when I play either the screen gets scaled and can look a bit wierd, or you can choose to have it use only 1024x768 (or whatever) pixels of the screen and the picture is just smaller (with my nVidia gfx card.).

So in that respect it is a bit of a pain, since things don't quite look 110% stretched, and otherwise it will only use around half of the screen....

The Asus M6Ne (or M6SNe for a wsxga screen) is pretty much the W1 without the tv tuner and cheaper by $6-800
