All the wireless drivers installed, and its turned on?

When you go into the control panel > network connections > view wireless networks > refresh network list, does it list your wireless network at all?

I thought they had it on by default myself.

It was going to be my suggestion the second u said wireless lan. They are pretty common these days, my dell doesnt have one mind you. Wireless cards, especially bluetooth aparently use a fair bit of power so its actually a proper hardware switch.
