yeah I'm replying to my own thread

camera has to be sent to melbourne (from tassie) for them to look at

and they are quoting 3 to 4 weeks which I am really not happy about, I don't have any work booked between now and then but need it back right on the 4 week mark to go OS with.

time to wonder how hard it is to get membership of CPS

<end rant 2>

Error 99 is a lens error, usually meaning a faulty lens, or a faulty connection from the camera body to the lens. Try cleaning the gold contacts on all lenses and on the camera body if you experience it again.

3 lenses, 2 of them L series, and all pretty new. I have cleaned the contacts and made sure they are all pretty happy looking. and its 100% error rate now. still I have managed to get the offer of a 20D for the trip if I require it but would prefer to take my own gear so will see what happens

Fair enough. I've had some pretty random Error 99's on various lenses, and the contacts have indeed been clean. Let us know how it goes.

Error 99 is a bit of a miscellaneous error message and covers a number of different errors. It can be lens contacts as suggested but can also be shutter related (amongst other things).

How old is the 10D and how many actuations?? Is it still under warranty?

The application form is on the internet Click Here

You need to be a fulltime photographer, and you need to own at least two pro bodies and at least three pro lenses

As a777 says, Err99 is a default error if the camera can't determine exactly what the error is. Its a generic state the camera enters for an unspecified error. It could be a lens/contact problem or any other non-determined error.

Are u using Ver. 2.0.1 firmware?, available from here http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/BeBit-e.html specifically http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/EOS10...irmware-e.html
Yes try cleaning the lens contacts, also reformat the CF card if not done so. I cant think what else it would be the cause of the errors.
