Default Crusoe

VIA/Transmeta Crusoe chipped notebooks. How are their performance in comparison to the say the P-M or Cel-M's (or U-LV's)? Fujitsu has one advertised I think 700Mhz but batt life with standard cells is claimed 4.5 hours, which is not more than Pentium-M based systems at twice the clock speed.

Would their performance be as crappy as their low clockspeed and 256kb L2 cache suggest?

No, the P-M will be much faster, however i think you will find that the fujitsu notebook uses a tiny 2-4 cell batery compared to a P-M which would need 8cell to get the equivelant.

The machine in general will be much smaller.

The 700mhz model should be just a little bit swifter than a simillarly spec'd pentium 3. It should have enough grunt for general browsing, DVD and Xvid decoding and word processing, but not much else.
