It might be perfect for you but I doubt these will be taking over the laptop world any time soon, they are a niche product. And they are not cheap either, starting at $2,449.00 for a lowly Intel Celeron M Processor 1.5GHz and Intel Extreme Graphics 2 Technology.

So apart from the top cover being totally cool, what else is so good about it externally?

I mean, I like cool shit, but compared to a similarly spec'ed Dell 700M, why am I paying an extra $500-$600.

I've been looking pretty hard at the Area-51m 7700, so far I've been unable to find another laptop with similar specs for the price ... it will be used mostly for 3D design / rendering work.

Yeah I'd tend to agree, the 700m is a good price at the moment, with the free DVD burner, and higher speed processor, but otherwise, the two are pretty identical - I wouldn't pay $500 extra, for two blue LEDs

Now this is uncanny

Northgate

Alienware

The Northgate is EXACTLY the same spec, and except for the glowing alien head, and the colours, looks EXACTLY the same as the Alienware; it's available for $USD 1098 at Walmart, now if only they shipped to Australia Northgate look like they will ship internationally, so at USD $1271.10 that works out to AUD $1,670.45 plus shipping, so well below AUD $2000 shipped

Do you know where to get it at a good price? - from googled sites they don't seem that cheap
