Default LCD screen power consumption

I would like to know if If an LCD Laptop computer screen uses more or less power if large portions of the screen are black in colour. (help extend battery life), any one have any info?

I believe (but I'm not definitely sure) that its is the backlight of the monitor that drains the most power. That is why powersave modes majorly drop the brightness. I don't think the actual LCD pixels use much power.

I could be wrong though.

No, the backlight is still running at the same intensity. You have to lower its brightness if you want to save juice.
