Hi Stussy,

sorry, maybe I didn't explain it well enough - I have a spare XBOX to SCART adapter for sale, which has an optical digital output (for audio) as well as having the default RCA audio/video and an S-VHS connection on it.

It's not a convertor, you plug it direct into the back of the XBOX and the other end into the SCART on your TV (I have an Orion brand TV with SCART and it gives a fantastic, clear picture.. and the optical is connected to the surround sound processor - makes gaming and XBOX Media Centre a lot of fun ).

If its coming out in B&W, its proly working just fine- check the SVHS output on the XBOX, make sure its set to PAL. If you output an NTSC signal to a PAL tv it'll show the signal in B&W.

If it comes through as black and white it means your TV doesn't accept s-video via scart, so you need an adaptor that does the conversion.
Anyone know where I can get an adapter that does the conversion?

The problem with SCART is that people believe it's a universal connection with seperate RGB inputs as well as composite and audio, a lot of the time this just isn't the case - Especially on the older SCART equipped sets. You will find, quite often, on the earlier sets that the SCART connector only has the composite and audio inputs enabled, there is no RGB input and no chroma input - Which could be the case in the example here....

....What really pisses you off is the fact that you don't nessecarily find this out until you've been through about 3 different, expensive lead sets.

Go through your sets setup menu and make sure there isn't an option to enable RGB on the set. As stated previously, it is quite possible that the xbox is outputting NTSC - Although the chances are slim....

Hi Hendot, you're using the adaptor the wrong way around.. all of the SCART adaptors I've seen are for feeding IN a composite or S-VHS signal TO a SCART connection.. not for feeding FROM a SCART connection to composite or S-VHS.

You should in theory be able to get a SCART (OUT) to S-VHS cable, but it would have different wiring to a S-VHS to SCART (INPUT - the most common) cable.

There is a swtich on the adaptor to change between IN and OUT. Naturally I have it on OUT. I have tried it on IN but that just messes up the picture totally, as you would expect.

sorry, I missed the important facts from the previous message..

summing up - you won't be able to get colour from the SCART -> SVHS Cable you've got, it's simply not possible.

reason: the STB you have only outputs RGB or CVBS (or composite as it is more commonly known. ie: generally the yellow RCA cable on the back of most video devices).

in depth: the reason you're only getting black and white output from the SCART to the SVHS connection is that pin 19 on the SCART connection is the CVBS output (luma) signal, which is one of the two components that make us an S-VHS signal (chroma and luma). Because your STB can only output RGB or CVBS you cannot get the chroma output to make up the S-VHS signal.

You need a SCART to composite (RCA) cable (if your TV has composite input), and if you really need an S-VHS signal to input on the back of your amp, then you could build this device which will convert a composite video signal to an S-VHS signal:

http://www.elektor-electronics.co.uk...eo/Photography

or you could buy a SCART RGB to S-VHS adaptor box lke this one:
http://www.pcx.com.au/products/index...&g=189&s=35310

or if your TV has component colour video inputs, then use this device:
