Arrow Bits for Your Box: Basic components to build your next Folding Machine...Updated

Thanks to the local computer recycler we have an almost endless supply of PCI video cards, hard drives mainly under 2G and a few SCSI drives along with PCI NICs. There is a load of ISA stuff too if needed.

dureck and I have been collecting these bits for a while and this is where most of the eBay stuff comes from as well. Seeing that we have had an influx of new Folders who seem to be looking for bits and pieces to make up new machines I thought we could help them out by providing the basic goodies to help get a box off the ground and into production.

Now the catch it will cost a $5 donation to the FFF plus postage for a basic kit of HDD, Video Card and NIC. A video card or nic on its own will cost a $2 donation plus postage. A 9G SCSI drive will cost a $10 donation plus post. As I get different stuff I will add it to the catalogue of bits.

I will test and format the HDD's and also give the video cards and NIC's a work out as well. If you like the idea or have any suggestions let me know and fire away if you want anything.

Cases, yes but there arent cheap to post ($30 to $50 depending on destination) so its best to buy local and pickup.

Motherboards: plenty of Slot 1's BX and LX some AT socket 370's but thats about it.

Simple answer NO!

Teddy

GiggleHz seems to matter though

Edit OK What I should have said that 0.5MB PCI S3 Virge will fold just as well as a 6800Ultra/X850XT!

Long Answer YES!

Onboard video will use system ram and some cpu cycles, as long as your using a video card, you should see slight improvements.

Edit: Side note --> Does Bollocks mind if these parts aren't used for folding?

Well some of the bits have been going to eBay and they arent used for Folding. We have more than enough stuff here so if you want something the money will end up in the FFF to help build Folding machines so let me know what you want.

Its to slow, you would need a CPU least 500Mhz and 3DNow or SSE to give you a decent return.
