Default DVI Adaptors

Just wondering, on the radeons with the conventional monitor output plug and the DVI plug, I read in the manual that the DVI plug is only for LCD monitors, yet comes with an adaptor. Does this mean that you should only use it with an LCD which doesdn't have a DVI input plug (I.E. Use the adaptor and plug), or that you won't find any CRT's with a DVI plug. I have a second CRT lying around and am thinking about going dual monitor, but don't want to damage my vid card.
