Immersed you bet. Do i want more?, oh hell yes! so all the people who have perhaps read heaps about VR but never actually experienced it should give it a try before bagging it out.
I Remember That thing, it was awesome, at tilt.
After 2 Minutes i was hooked, it wasn't much visual wise, but extremely impressive.

Closest I come to VR these days is just VR tours on the web.

I did like the concept.

VR has it's place in training scenarios etc.

But people dont want to wear heavy goggles (same applies with 3D movies) and would rather sit still while using technology :P

Yep I got one a few weeks ago to play with BlackShark, it's awesome. Apparently most in the flightsim world swear by it, and yeah I can see why. It's not bulky, just clips onto the headset, and config is easy, recentering is just a hotkey.

At work people are developing 3D stereo dome projection, I think that with some head tracking and decent input devices will give all of what VR offered. I don't think 3D game designers will need to change their way of doing things, it should all be done in the engine. Main problem with domes is they take up space.

A lot of VR headsets were abandoned because of the testing they had to undergo. There was one for the dreamcast I think that failed testing. People would get headaches, loss of depth perception, nausea, etc for hours after using the headset. I think the tests were about 2hrs/day for several weeks so that is conservative given how much some people would play.

Some testing has shown similar things with 3d glasses, especially in a home situation where it might be used 2+hrs/day rather than a cinema where you might go once or twice a month.

I remember paying like $10 at luna park for 5mins in a VR thingo. Graphics were pretty dodgy. Immersion was quite good though.

I remember walking onto an elevator and hearing the guy say "look up" then thinking to myself wtf i am looking up. Then realising i had to actually tilt my head back to "look up". Then the elevator went up

Surely we are getting somewhere with it now???
Isnt ATI talking about how Eyefinity is the first step towards a holodeck? 5 years off total immersion with LCDs?
Think about the graphics and LCD technology and how far its come!

I guess a lot has to do with the cost and lack of adoption. Sure we would all love something, but the rest of the world now has expectations of technology and isnt amazed by much any more, they just get annoyed when it isnt perfect.

Eg. My ex cant understand why i cant email her 20GB of raw digital photos...
Eg 2. How is watching youtube over 3g any different than reading email?

is it fairly accurate? I want to try it on race07......... I tried a wiimote once and just couldnt aim or nothing : I'm a mouse sort of guy -

Did you get the trackir 5 pack? I'm still trying to work out the difference between the vector and the pro ultra pack.............From what I can see is I want the ultra for the sensor to sit on my headset - but I read on http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/...games-all.html
that theres a new vector expansion?

what about that yokels setup with the monitor stuck on top of the nerf gun a while back, that is as cool and efficient as you're gonna get. And because you're still aware of your surroundings you won't get injured. :s

Yeah I got the pro, and it's very accurate for what it does. I haven't tried with the normal reflector, I just went straight to the pro because it clips on the headset nicely. I've only used it for controlling the view, so it doesn't need to be that accurate. I haven't tried it controlling the mouse in an unsupported game, I'm guessing that would be a disaster. It's not supposed to replace any existing peripherals, just adds a new dimension to it.

I hadn't heard of the vector before, it looks like it's just the normal reflector but for the old trackir 3.
