Default DDR400 Backwards-compatibility

I'm about to build a mini-itx system, and the board only 'accepts' DDR266/333 memory.
If I bought DDR400 RAM, it should work fine shouldn't it? It's just that I've seen some boards say "can ONLY use ddr333, don't use ddr400" which kinda worried me.
Sorry about the n00b question, I haven't bought RAM since my P4 RDRAM system (then again, I am in the n00b-questions forum, yes)
Cheers,
--Nathan

In some circumstances where only DDR333 is supported - it means that you will be unable to run the RAM at DDR400 without officially overclocking everything...

The language often used in motherboard manuals is horrible (asian translators - can't expect too much, yet can't blame them though)... so it may make it confusing...

but yes, buying RAM these days, esp new ram, shoudl always be DDR400 - it's the cheapest, backward compatible, and better for the future...

That's exactly what I was thinking , just needed to double-check. I noticed it was cheapest too, wtf. Shouldn't they be trying to clear slower RAM?

i don't know the answer to that question...

it really makes no sense to buy pc2100 or 2700... ahaha...

maybe they think that since only fools would be buying 2100 or 2700 thinking that only they woudl be compatible with their motherbaords that state "2100/2700", then might as well rip them off too...
