Default Upgrade Laptop CPU

Heyas,

I'm wanting to change the cpu in my laptop (compaq presario 2500). Currently has a desktop P4 2.8ghz 533fsb in it.. and i was wondering if anyone knew if i would run into problems putting a P4-m 2.8ghz 533fsb chip in it.. essentially the same cpu, just with the addition of speedstep. I can't find any info on the HP site and it's not supported by them any more so any info appreciated

cheers,

-psy.

Im pretty sure a P4-m is 400fsb and Im not sure if they are the same socket as the 533fsb Northwood's

The biggest P4-M I have played with was in a Toshiba 2100 and it was a 2ghz one with 400fsb

I could be wrong, have you looked at the intel website as theres over a dozen different P4 CPU's

It gets very confusing when you first look at it

Its the same with P3 Laptop Chips, they have 2 different Sockets and 2 bifferent FSB models and either can be in either socket, makes it hard to upgrade

and I've had 2 C600 Dells sitting infront of me one was a P3 1ghz and the other was a P3 850mhz, I tried to swap the CPU's and one worked and the other said "This revision of motherboard does not support this CPU" on trying to boot it

so after all this bullshit, you would be better off selling it and buying a Notebook with a Power saving CPU and Chipset

I know how you feel as the heat that those P4's push out could be used to heat the house on a cold winters night and I dont like carrying a car battery with me just to keep it running

Yeah, i was confused.. intel have too many different p4's. The chip is a Mobile P4.. not a P4-m. But your probably right about the buying a different one thing... might go that way

cheers,
