I am interested to hear from those of you that have these devices, especially if you have had this problem. My mum bought one and had some trouble with it on an overseas trip, returned it for a warranty repair and they sent it back claiming its fine.
Problem was it kept erasing all of her data and has done it several times since its return. Has any one had the same problem? Has anyone had much experience with these Pocket PC/ phone combo's or with the operating system behind them? Any help or links to sites that might be able to provide an answer would be greatly appreciated. |

How odd ... I have the original XDA and it's never done anything remotely like that!
Is she able to recover the data via ActiveSync?

No, she was overseas when it first happened. She had planned to use it for all things she might use a computer for but when it spat its bikkies for the 3rd time she got fed up with it. I am thinking of buying it from her so she can replace it with a less involved PDA or a palm type.

the data would be erased when
1. you hard reset the device (power button + reset) 2. battery is completely out (main and backup) apart from those...i've never experienced any weird data loss..

what rolan said
keep in mind...make sure there are no reminders, alarms, etc. that cause the pda phone to turn on..combined with auto turn off disabled..it will leave your pda phone on until the battery runs out

Thanks for some ideas guys. My mum is not the most techno savy of people but she didnt leave it on. She showed me how she had it set up when she was using it and it was set up pretty well in regard to battery life.
She was able to save some of her data onto cards but lost most of it when it kept hard resetting by itself. She also wasnt able to sync it with her computer at work. All the options she wanted to choose were grayed out. Not sure if that was something to do with her setup at work or not. She had her tech support guy help with the software install but he couldnt figure it out either. Since i have had it to check out I must admit i havent had a problem. Sync's perfectly all the time, connected first go. Really stumped as to what might have caused the problem. Could quite possibly be user error but i dont really believe that. Mum is not too bad with modern technology for a 50 y/o. Still, Cheers for the help. Last edited by PlantDink; 26th March 2005 at 7:19 AM. |
