It is rumoured on another forum that BigW will have an Acer centrino based model some time in the next fortnight with a dvd burner for ~$1300.

I don't understand why anybody offers laptop systems with 256Mb of RAM (sometimes with 64Mb shared!) running Windows XP. Unless of course, people enjoy waiting 30 seconds for IE to open. I say this because I have been looking into purchasing a laptop for the purposes of uni - it'd have to be relatively fast (P4-M 1.4 or 1.5Ghz), have a decent screen (15.4" Widescreen would do), a decent amount of HDD space (40/60Gb), and be able to run several instances of Word/Access/Excel/IE/other applications at the same time - unfortunately, this just doesn't seem possible for a laptop under the $2000.00 mark from a reputable brandname (HP, Dell), because all their cheapy laptops come with a paltry 256Mb of memory!

yeah... you'd be surpised how well these run even on 256Mb ram and they're so cheap. With edu discount they're well within your budget...

Why does it have to be a centrino? Cause of battery life or wireless ?
