I have got a Dell Latitude C610. It features a mini PCI slot / internal antenna hookup for the optional wireless card. Does anyone know whether I have to buy the dell oem wireless adapters? OR can I use any brand mini pci card as long as it has the proper antenna hookups?
By the way. Which one would be the best for use in an ad-hoc network.

If it has a MiniPCI slot & internal antennas, you can use any wireless card.

Check the form factor, there is 3A and 3B and I wouldnt be suprised if the BIOS locks the MiniPCI to approved Wireless Cards. I know Hp/Compaq to this to some of their laptops.
Dell have a good MiniPCI WiFI card in the TrueMobile but the Intel 2200 are more common

I can confirm any will work, best one to get is an Atheros based one
It supports 802.11 a/b/g super g and super ag in 2.4ghz and 5ghz hah take that intel They have far better range than any intel mini pci card and you can find them on ebay being sold under the Gigabyte name Just make sure your lappy has the mini coax in it as the early dells mainly use lan/modem mini pci cards and they didnt come with the mini coax patch cable (about 3 inch's long) that connects the the internal anntenna to the mini pci card

Just for your info, the Dell Truemobile is a rebadged Broadcom OEM card.

Open it up and find out. Usually MiniPCI is used for the 56k Modem and is near the SODIMM Slots. It should be user accessible by one or two screws but installing a Wireless card is made futile if your laptop doesnt have an inbuilt antenna
