Default pcmia pins

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought a laptop here:
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=359770

The laptop has a dual pcmia slot but I've noticed that the top slots doesn't have the pins coming out of it while the bottom one doesn't. Am I right by saying that the top pcmia slot it stuffed without the pins?

The user previously never used the slot so I'm a bit confused as to whether this is normal or not?

If it is stuffed, is it possible to buy a male pins so that I can just add it to the back of the pcmia card?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Do you mean the top slot doesnt have pins, but the bottom slot does? Could be that they've been pushed in, although some laptops have only 1 PCMCIA port but have a double sized slot for some devices such as network cards that need the double size slot.

Yes, that particular model has only a single Type III (double height) PCMCIA slot, which means no pins in the top slot.

Those types of sockets are more for double size cards, such as the old Xircom 10/100 ethernet/56k bundles. They used to take up two sockets and only connect at the bottom.

Your socket is fine, just watch those pins! (they're bloody touchy to bend back into place, IF they're still attached)

Ahh, that explains it. Sorry, laptop noob, I still reckon they should have pins on the top as well.

Thanks everyone of the replies
