Default Sapphire X850-XT

Hi,

I'm in the process of saving for a Sapphire X850-XT and a MSI K8N Platinum 939 mobo.

I have currently a 939 system and a 5900XT. Which is a great card, but i want to go to PCI-Express cause i can't afford AGP anymore.

Every where i look there is about $100 difference between the two types and PCI-Express is cheaper.

I would like some opinions on this subject please.

Luke

Not sure exactly what you want the opinion on then.
Youve already stated you will be getting PCI-E.

Well i would like it to happen, but with me nothing is going to happen until i have it in my hands.

Then it has happened. If you get my drift (I'll say sorry for the spelling right now. I didn't do well at school).

Basicly i change my mind every few days. It's my disabilty (i can't believe i just made it public). Anyway life's a bitch.

SORRY for getting side tracked. I would like this setup, but is it worth it.

That's what i'm asking. it's going to cost $830.

Upgrading now on AGP is just non-sense.
PCI-E is definately the way you should go IMO, but to what card is up to you.

I would like that card too... in pci tho coz thats the mb I'm getting with my system. I've read there's not much difference in performance tho between agp and pci-e right now, so just go for the cheaper option.

This card is probably more in my price range:
ATI RADEON X800XL PCI-E 256MB GDDR3 @ $559

Hi,

In responce to all Thank You. You've been a great help. Now to the issue at hand.

If you live in NSW or VIC or QLD you can get the Sapphire X850XT from MSY for $685 if i didn't reveal my secret.

I've heard the rumors about them. I've had no problems with them. I must admit some stuff they get off the grey market, but it still works (have i got permission to say grey market).

Anyway. They are cheap, but good. I can't afford anybody else at the moment.

Luke

I just picked up my MSI X850XT from MSY last night... $685, and i am impressed. My previous card was a 9600xt and before that was an FX5700... ATi all the way from now...

Back to MSY. yeah, i'm a little annoyed that you go in there to buy certain things and they are 'out of stock' but willing to upsell (i originally was going to buy an X800XL)

But... they have some of the cheapest prices in town and do always seem to get stock of 'exotic' items - add to that, i have had no issues if i had to return something.

I'm in a similar situation wrt upgrading my S939/AGP board. I'm thinking of getting a top end AGP card as I figure that it will be good for a couple of years. By that time the there will be new cards and motherboards and even the cheapest will exceed the performance of todays gear.

There is no performance reason to switch from AGP to PCI-X at the moment.

Hmm if I was you and moving to pci-e then maybe wait for the 7800 GTX's to come down in price a little, they seem to be the performance kings at the moment or even for the r520 to show up and then see which card is the best performing.

Or also when the R520 comes in and the 7800GTX comes down in price, the current high end cards might drop in price a bit too, which could make them a cheaper option.

Or just buy what you can when you can... Better than sitting around on old tech constantly waiting for the next best thing..

I know people who are still on GF2 MX cards because every time they think about upgrading something new and exciting is just around the corner.

Matt.
