Default Laptop battery

Hi is there any harm in just leaving the laptop battery in the machine when I use it at home and have the AC power plugged in.

Normally I like to move around my house, and I quickly push in my battery when I move (takes 10 secs) find my new position and plug in the AC power and continue working.

I understand laptop batteries are only good for some charges does it hurt if you have it plugged in and charging the battery from 99% to 100% all the time affect battery life?

My centrino battery is only good for about 2-3 hours. I have a laptop T41 btw. is that about normal?
Thanks all
P.
