Default Widescreen laptops

As I've only owned normal 4:3 format ones, I have a cupla questions re: Widescreen laptops.

1. Is a 15" widescreen laptop much smaller vertically than a 14" ?

2. Does Windows XP detect it is running on a widescreen display and take advantage of the extra width? I'd imagine the video driver would need to know about widescreen.

ive got a 15.4" WS laptop...so i cant answer the first question..

windows xp detects your native resolution of your laptop..it sets it by default to this...you can however change it to whatever res you prefer

My 15.4" ws laptop has the same width of a 19" CRT (i think, it looked that way when i put it in front of my 19" crt) except is a fair bit shorter.
