if you have something to strip the rubber off the wire with (scissors), and a small screw driver then your set..

Its a shielded coaxial cable..
Okay what you need to do is.
1) strip the insulation off the outside(down to the shielding wire, not to the copper strand)
2) cut or push the wire shielding back, and make sure none of it is touching the copper

3) Cut the end of the copper wire so you have around 5mm hanging out, and 5mm of the white insulation.

4) push the connector (F-type, from memory) onto the end, and make the white insulation sit flush with the inside ... bah too hard to explain. just have a look at your normal TV leads.

5)You will need to crimp it, so it stays on the end.. although i didnt have a crimping tool when i put a new ariel point in so i didnt bother. Reception is crystal clear.

5)plug into the back of your socket on the wall (if you have gone up the inside of your wall) and then you're finished!

The only thing you need is an F-Type connector. Easy. (you might need 2.. for the other end?)

How it's done depends on the type of wall socket you get.

There's the 'screw and saddle' type and 'F connector' type. You'll probably want to get the screw and saddle type since you dont really need any special tools for it (though F connector is technically superior). With the screw and saddle type you just have to strip the insulation back as described above and then then screw the copper core into place and hold the insulated part in place with the saddle (making sure the outer shielding doesnt touch the inner core). This should make more sense once you get the socket.

If you go the F-type route, the socket will have a female F-type connector on the back. You have to crimp a F-type connector onto the end of your coaxial cable and then just screw the cable into place. Also, yes the cable will be the male part, with the copper core bit of the cable being the 'male' part. Ask the dudes at the DSE or wherever you go, they usually know.

BTW, from the pic it looks like your coaxial cable is ony RG59 cable. It's not that good for long cable runs and noisy environments. For best quality (if your signal isnt that good) you should replace it with Quad shield RG6 cable.

Oh yeah, btw. When running the coax. try to keep it away from your power cables (magnetic fields, etc etc..) just gives better picture quality and stuff.
Its not necessary, but i do it where i can.

I think in the 'rules + regs' its supposed to be 100mm.

umm, ill take the plate off the wall and take some photos.. (im an apprentice electrican by trade )

Or cross the power cables at a right angle

Its to stop the power cables from inducing a 50Hz signal in your signal cables (Im a electrical eng student)

Step 1:

Strip cable back, revealing copper core, cutting away insulation + shielding

Step 2: The connector you shove on the end

Step 3: This is the part that connects to your Single Gang Plate (same as a switch, just w/out the mech) you can buy these seperately.

Step 4: skipped a bit here, pics were really shit (i cant use a camera)
okay, so you shove the connector onto the cable, then you put the female end onto the plate.
Then you screw it in nice and tight.

Okay, if you've done things correctly, your cable shouldnt look anything like this. it should be all stripped back, off, nice and neat. This was just my (parents) house - so fast is good.

Step 5: Skipped a bit more - im tired, and CBF. just chuck it back in teh wall, screw it back onto the wall. put the plate (there is 2 with the hpm ones) the cover plate, or what ever its called...
Plug in your lead.
Turn on your TV
Should look like that

Hope that works... im tired.. need sleep! Past my bed time!!!

This could be due to the signal in your area or your antenna. Nothing much you can do without buying an amplifier or getting a new antenna.
