Default SN95G5 and venice core ?

are these compatible ??
Can any1 with SN95G5 and Venice experience care to comment ??

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=912520

quotes -->

"V2.0 of these cases is hit or miss with supporting the Venice cores."

"some people have had great luck in having the Venice cores work by just hard resetting the CMOS. There is a convenience button on the back of these Shuttles which I had already tried and thought that was enough. Turns out I had to do it the old fashioned way using the motherboard jumper, and that worked out great!"

Are you buying new? I think they're up to V3 now.

Built 5 of these machines today with 3000+ Venice CPUs and they all worked fine. Don't know what version they are, but they were brand new.

We've sold 2 SN95V2 in the last week that were purchased on 21/6 from the disty, neither worked reliably. This is the only stock type the Sydney disty has.

One had 3200, other had 3500, both Venice. The issue is that they will post once, let you set the BIOS up, and keep running fine, until they get their mains power removed.

Once you remove & reapply the power, eg first time customer tries it out after receiving new system, it won't post and shows a red light on the board. You have to clear the CMOS again to get it to post, every time the mains is disconnected.

We were asked to swap the CPUs in both, despite the fact that we did not select the parts for the customers.

Shuttle mention the V2 does not work with Venice here:

http://global.shuttle.com/Support/Su...G5%20(FN95V1.X

So unless you buy a V3, which as far as I know, is not yet sold locally, you will be hosed if you try to use it with a Venice.

I can't seem to find anyone here in Sydney who stocks the V3 model of the SN95G5. Anyone had any luck?

I bought a new SN95G5B-V3, hoping that it was a Version 3, but it is only a version 2. The last two characters of the model no. (in my case -25), signify the version. The Shuttle website has the info on the BIOS page.
All is not lost, however, as the latest BIOS revision for the V2 supports the Venice and Manchester cores - providing they are the E6 stepping. I have an E6 3800X2 on order, so I hope to hell that they are right with this, and I will let you know when it arrives and I get it all going.

I'm back - after a hell of a journey. Finally got my 3800X2 - E6 stepping, so I was right to install everything in my SN95B5 -V3 (version 2.5). Eventually put it all together, and fired it up. AGP light goes on, and it won't start. Aha! says I - this is the problem that is fixed by the latest BIOS, so I disconnect the power and reset the BIOS. It immediately restarts, and I flash the BIOS to the new one which supports only E6 (not E3 or 4) AMD chips. Off I go to get into XP (using my old install). Mucho problems - Stop errors etc. Boot into safe mode, and try and install various drivers to get it going. Along the way, I actually turn it off.
Bugger - AGP light comes on, and it needs a reset to get going. Hmmm. Shorten long story - it doesn't work with the E6 processor - still same old problem. I am also having mucho trouble with Windows - got myself into a loop with safe mode terminating because setup (in-place upgrade/repair) won't work.
Ring up place where I got it from, and they say bring it back and talk to them. So I disassembled it, packed it up and went back. I said that I had asked for a V3, and this was actually a V2. They looked through their stock, and found an actual V3.
Swapped it over, and went home to reassemble. Still having trouble with Stop errors, so checked memory for 7 hours with no problem, downclocked the processor etc. - still no joy The problem was, the error message wasn't saying anything - no inaccessible boot device or anything. Bash head on wall - Run up Knoppix and Ubuntu - all OK. Safe mode could read disks - but installing nVidia drives was a pain (and almost impossible) as they assume a 1024x768 screen, and safe mode only gives 640x480. Still no joy. Noticed something on Microsoft knowledge base saying that stop errors could be created when the old and new disk controllers saw the geometry of the disk differently. Time for a repartition & reformat. Installation then went OK, until I tried to load the drivers that came in the box. Shit city again - so reinstall.
So, going with new forceware v5.10, so we will see how it turns out.
Incidently, the V3 has V3 written on the box on top of the SN95G5B, as well as a model code on the bar code ending in 3x.
Sorry for the length, but this might help some others.
